IGNITION 11: Collective Joy
IGNITION (Empowered) • 55m
Barbara Ehrenreich coined the term "collective joy" to describe group events which involve music, synchronized movement, and a feeling of loss of self. They elicit an overwhelming feeling of connection to those around you without sharing anything in common other than the moment. This phenomenon has been happening for hundreds of years at concerts, sporting events, festivals, parades, etc. These events are known to erase social boundaries and have no bias based on race, age, gender, or religion. Basically, they are small glimpses of heaven on earth. With the help of our Addicts, I compiled a playlist of songs that bring about some kind of joyful emotional response for a large population: songs that people love to sing together at parties and sleepovers, ones that you just can't sit still when they come on, and that cross over language and race barriers like nothing else can. With these songs, paired with movements that make us feel alive and vivacious, my hope is to create our very own collective joy event to come back to any time we are feeling the need for a deeper human connection.
I'm Just Here for the PLAYLIST:
1. Let's Go Crazy- Prince
2. Bohemian Rhapsody- Queen
3. Bitch- Meredith Brooks
4. Get Low- Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz & Ying Yang Twins
5. Love Shack- The B-52's
6. Callin' Baton Rouge
7. Shoop- Salt-N-Pepa
8. September- Earth, Wind & Fire
9. Lean On Me- Club Nouveau
10. What's Up?- 4 Non Blondes
